Words of Wisdom

For this project I took one of my 5th grade art classes to the computer lab, if you have a lab at your school this is a great project to share with your lab or technology teacher. You can also have a few of your students work together, if there is a limited number of computers.

Most word processing programs have a paint component. These pictures were created with the Claris Works paint program.

Objectives:

Introduction to Claris Paint program, explore paint tools, how to create text blocks, manipulating text, adding images and designs to text, use of color to create special effects.

Motivation:

Students interviewed parents and grandparents, making a list of ¿words of wisdomî. Their classroom teacher discussed the meaning of these sayings with them and the children also wrote a descriptive paragraph about their sayings.

Procedures:

Over the course of three 45 minute classes, the children:

First - learned to create text blocks and typed their words of wisdom.
Second -
learned to change text fonts , style, color, and size.
Third -
Using the transforming tools they moved and distorted the text.
Finally
- they added designs and images to complete their work.
